Atlona adds to EMEA sales and engineering teams

 Atlona has added two members of staff to its EMEA sales and engineering teams..Mustafa Bostanci joins at technical support engineer and Timo Schonmeier is a new sales engineer for networked AV.

Both report to Kobi Levy, director of technical services, and are based at Panduit’s Customer Briefing Centre (CBC) in Frankfurt, Germany.

Bostanci joins Atlona from AVI-SPL in Germany, where as lead technician he oversaw the installation, inspection and approval of AV systems and collaboration systems for clients. His expertise in software solutions is particularly beneficial for Atlona partners and end users transitioning to AV over IP systems. Bostanci also brings 12 years of experience as an IT and network technician with at Messe Frankfurt, a well-known trade fair and event jobs with a computer science degree, where he managed installation, operation and technical support of AV and IT systems.

In his new role, Bostanci will help Atlona partners and dealers develop IP and circuit-based AV systems, and support both customers and Atlona sales managers through all design and documentation processes. He will additionally assist with product demonstrations and customer trainings online, at the CBC, and on the road as situations allow.

Zoom’s sales surge beats even most optimistic forecasts

 San Francisco | Soaring demand for the Zoom video conferencing service exceeded even the most optimistic Wall Street forecasts in the latest three months, lifting quarterly revenue higher than the company reported for the whole of 2019.

The boom fuelled a 25 per cent leap in Zoom’s shares in after-market trading on Monday and left it with a stock market value of $US114 billion ($155 billion), more than four times the value of Telstra.

The company, whose name has become almost synonymous with working and learning from home during the pandemic, reported revenue of $US663.5 million for the quarter to the end of July – a 355 per cent increase from the year before – and an acceleration from the 270 per cent growth in the months after the pandemic hit.

Most analysts had expected quarterly revenue of about computer science vs software engineering million. Revenue for the year ended in January was $US623 million.

How On The Job Training Will Work For Post-Seconday Students This Fall

 “So, they’re still operating,” said Patricia Meng, co-coordinator of the Co-Operative Education Program for the Faculty of Computer Science at UNB."Actually, pretty much all of the students who went out this summer were working from home.”

The co-op program for UNB Computer Science didn’t have too many issues when transitioning online, according to Meng. Computer science students do most of their work from a computer.

“If there was no such thing as internet and technology and , it would have been painful,” Meng said.

“Because the students all have their computers and some employers sent students computers or computer engineering career the student was able to set up at home.”

At New Brunswick Community College, students partake in practicums, co-ops, and work placements. Some students are doing in-person placements, some students are doing simulated placements, and some will even be online.

“For those programs that will require that practical experience with [the] industry in [the] fall, some of it will be dependent upon the industry themselves because not all industry will be able to take on students,” said Ann Drennan, Vice President Academic and Research at NBCC.

“It could be limitations in terms of the host organization, financial limitations, or capacity that they have or just space relative to physical distancing.”

She said how the placements will go ahead in the fall is completely dependent on the program.

Amazon grant will help 7 Hampton Roads schools get more kids in computer classes

 Seven schools in Hampton Roads will be among those to benefit from an Amazon grant aimed at helping low-income students access computer science classes.

Amazon will donate $3.9 million to a Richmond-based nonprofit over the next three years to help the group support students at mostly Title I or economically disadvantaged schools. Title I schools receive federal funds to support academic needs for schools with high percentages of children from low-income families.

Computer science instruction was folded into Virginia’s Standards of Learning in 2017, making the commonwealth the first in the country to require computer science and coding in K-12 education.

The donation will go toward training teachers and working with administrators across 19 schools in Virginia, including two in Chesapeake and five in Suffolk.

“We were very intentionally wanting to serve Title I schools and economically disadvantaged schools because often they’re the last to receive innovative programs in school divisions,” said Chris Dovi, executive director of computer science engineering, the Richmond nonprofit that received the donation.

Truck technology that could help manage traffic gets funding boost

 Amey has been awarded extra funding to develop technology that could change the way traffic management on roads is carried out, boosting safety in the process.

In an announcement on Tuesday the firm, which is owned by Spanish infrastructure giant Ferrovial, said it had received £759,000 ($998,259) from Highways England.

According to Amey, the money will be used to design an impact protection vehicle, or IPV, to keep how much does a computer engineer make safe when laying out traffic management measures on “live carriageways.” The first phase of the project received funding back in 2018. 

The vehicle is set to incorporate technology that will allow it to, among other things, automatically deploy advanced warning signs and impact protection systems. At the moment, workers need to manually lay out traffic management measures, a task that is not without risk.

“While we are doing all we can to change driver behavior and prevent traffic management incursions, we cannot eliminate all risk,” Catherine Brookes, Highways England regional director, said in a statement.
