Share it with this desi application

For all those missing Xender and SHAREit, the file-sharing apps which are among the Chinese apps banned in the country, a student of the Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri, here has come up with a new option.

Ashwin Shenoy, a second-year Computer Science student, has developed an application named BayJDO which he calls “a lightweight, simple yet fast, and secure web application that allows us to transfer files directly between devices, without requiring users to instal dedicated apps or create a special Wi-Fi hotspot.”

Transferring files using what jobs can you get with a computer science degree has only one prerequisite — the devices need to be in the same network.

Once the devices are on the same network (or hotspot), they can go to bayjdo.com (or use the PWA installed) and both of them may get an ID and QR Code. Then, anyone of the two can scan the QR Code on the other and send files to each other.

BayJDO uses WebRTC to reliably facilitate an end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer file transfer, the technology which was originally introduced by Google and now being popularised in videoconferencing apps, including Google Meet.

Google Redefines Multi-Cloud Computing

Ask any IT professional or tech industry observer to name the top trends they see, and you would inevitably hear many variations on the theme of cloud computing. In particular, the phrase multi-cloud computing is likely to pop up.

At its simplest level, multi-cloud computing simply means that a company is choosing to use several different public cloud vendors, such as Google’s GCP, Amazon’s AWS, Microsoft’s Azure, etc. Companies often choose this approach to avoid vendor lock-in, provide redundancy, and help deal with data sovereignty issues where certain data has to be stored in a given country for legal or regulatory purposes (and not every cloud provider has data centers in every region).

In addition, certain cloud providers have developed expertise in specific areas and companies are choosing to run workloads with these providers to take advantage of those unique capabilities. In fact, a study on Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Computing trends that was based on a survey of over 600 US-based cloud computing professionals published by what is computer engineering Research earlier this year clearly highlighted that trend.

What Are The Advantages Of DevOps On The Cloud?

In the era of business transformation, enterprise cloud is very important. But after migrating to the cloud, how to manage the cloud computing infrastructure and achieve the delivery of cloud-native architecture. From the perspective of technical staff, the factors of cloud include price, infrastructure startup and running time, and application scalability. At first, you may have concerns about putting sensitive information on the cloud. Plus, there could be technical problems that teams may have to deal with.

The preparation for launching new cloud infrastructure needs carrying out capacity planning for the cloud; this is a very complex process. And when the capacity planning is completed, make a purchase plan, layout the network, etc., install software and hardware, and prepare the corresponding application building and deployment tools. There are other complexities between the test operation and the environment because of the inconsistency of the environment. For example, the developers may have to find that software has been developed, and the tester finds that it is not running well in the environment. To get past the complexities, what does a computer engineer do can be of much importance.

How can we solve the skills crisis in engineering?

“This is a slightly different answer to what I would have given four months ago. Our first priority is protecting our existing apprentices and businesses’ desire to upskill workers in the face of major cost pressures brought on by Covid-19.

“We need companies to maintain their commitment to the engineers of the future so that they have the talent and capacity they will require as the economy hopefully kicks back into life again. Employers, who are paying into the Apprenticeship Levy, should be looking at creative ways in which they could spend the money they’ve put in, including personal development courses and putting more mature workers through an apprentice where they can develop new skills, knowledge and difference between computer science and computer engineering.

“Longer-term, we need to continue the employer-led approach to training. What we offer shouldn’t be prescriptive or what government feels it should be; instead it should be developed and evolved from constant consultation with companies and finding out exactly what they need.”

Saving time and money via engineering: Manufacturing design

A new method for machining hole patterns has implications for cost and time savings in automobile, construction and tech companies, according to a team of researchers from the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State.

One of the most notable aspects of the research was the engineers' ability to help designers and manufacturing engineers better understand the application and production of feature patterns with sizes constrained by the location of groups of design features — geometric composite position tolerances.

The research, produced by former master’s students Abhijeet Golhar and Yiran Jiang and their advisers, computer engineering career, professor of industrial engineering, and Edward De Meter, professor of industrial engineering, was published in the Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering.

Engineering care: A designer’s perspective as a COVID-19 backliner

As non-essential personnel in the first weeks of the pandemic, my thoughts were the same as everybody else: “Where the hell do I get a toilet paper?” I didn’t have a lot of selfless and noble ideas back then to fight the virus. I was more concerned about my trips being canceled, and the Black Widow film being rescheduled from May to November. Admittedly, I had brushed off COVID-19’s threat, thinking that I wouldn’t even have anything to contribute, not being in the medical field. Obviously, I was very wrong.

As the weeks went by under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the number of computer science engineering cases steadily climbed. The government continued to roll out cash assistance programs and national policies to combat the pandemic and its consequent tragedies. But implementation was a different matter altogether.

As lapses in the execution of these policies became evident, the public grew restless. Soon enough, hospitals cried out over their lack of necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), public transport drivers begged for work, and small business owners filed for bankruptcy. Complaints rolled in, creating an online ruckus on crisis mismanagement and the unjust decrees that bare latent interclass tensions within Philippine society.

Crystal wars: Research may lead to more efficient crystal engineering methods

A team of researchers at the University of Tokyo and Fudan University has studied the process of crystallization when more than one structural arrangement is possible. By reducing the noise from random fluctuations, they found that transient precursors of the various crystalline orderings coexist and compete with each other. This work may help lead to more efficient crystal engineering methods.

One of most popular exhibits of any geology museum is the crystal section. Large, flat, rectangular or tetrahedral faces of an elegant crystal reflect underlying molecular patterns. On closer inspection, some specimens turn out to be mosaics of different shapes, showing that the same atoms can arrange themselves in multiple ways, called is computer science engineering. In fact, all crystals are just repeating arrangements of atoms or larger particles that typically grow from smaller seeds. These seeds serve as initial templates that allow new particles to attach in the proper locations. However, when multiple structures exhibit similar stabilities, the crystallization process can become extremely complex.

Networking challenges ahead for your security career

One of the most important tools used by security professionals as they pursue career development is the opportunity to network with peers. The global lockdowns, travel restrictions, expansion of remote working arrangements and numerous cancellations of professional programs and events we are now experiencing will have a profound impact on the opportunity to develop your security career through networking.

These challenging times show little sign of abating anytime soon, and some of the programs that normally bring in hundreds or even thousands of participants are being revamped to be virtual. Some have been more adept at making the leap than others. Some will simply fail.

Virtual events can disseminate the information at the core of a program, but they do not provide the same opportunity to meet with peers, be introduced to new friends and colleagues or have spontaneous side bar computer science or computer engineering. While you can break off into groups during a virtual event or message individually with questions, career networking is often done in a more personal manner and would be inappropriate for an open or online forum. There is also something to be said for being observed in a Q&A discussion.
